Tiguan – The sales star of Volkswagen
In June 2019, Volkswagen sold 542,300 vehicles worldwide, up by 1.6% from the same period last year. This is also the best-selling brand in Volkswagen Group which owns many cult brands such as Audi, Porsche, Bentley, Volkswagen.
The growth of German brand cars is more meaningful when the whole car market is facing difficulties because the purchase of personal vehicles is limited and strict regulations are imposed on emissions and the environment.
Tiguan continues to be the most successful model. The tendency to use a high-slung car helps the Tiguan stay strong at the top. Particularly in the North American market, SUVs account for more than half of Volkswagen cars sold to customers.
In January 2019, the 5 millionth Tiguan left the factory in Wolfsburg (Germany). The small model has been on the market since 2007. The current model is the second generation produced in 2016. Tiguan has made valuable contributions to the development strategy of the company as well as shaped the small SUV segment for customers around the world.
The Tiguan represents an increasingly important stature in Volkswagen's product portfolio. In 2008, one year after its launch, 120,000 units were produced. But by 2015, the company's books recorded more than 500,000 units. By 2018, this number rose one step higher, reaching 800,000 Tiguan delivered to global customers.
Volkswagen shows a reasonable product development strategy. In 2016, Tiguan built the second generation on the new Modular Transverse Matrix platform, ie modular chassis design. According to the German carmaker, the new platform helps reduce manufacturing costs, and the quality of vehicles is also enhanced with standardized modules. The Tiguan is now manufactured with the same assembly line of models of sisterly brands like Audi or Porsche.
Changing the platform and upgrading the design and technology in the second generation make Tiguan step up towards the segment of luxury automakers. For this generation, its market research team understands global customers more, with the new variant Tiguan Allspace, extending the wheelbase by 22 cm.
If Tiguan was originally sold only in traditional European markets, Allspace will be available in Europe, North America, and Asia. Like the name Allspace, the new version offers additional interior space and third-row seats, turning the car into 7 seats. Folding this row of seats down creates a large luggage compartment for the family.
In the familiar markets of the Volkswagen brand such as Europe, North America or China, Tiguan Allspace becomes a consideration of the majority. From the start of delivery in July 2018 to June 2019, there were 800 units sold.
What does Tiguan Allspace have to convince highly knowledgeable and demanding customers? According to representatives of the company, it is a high quality of German cars which is not inferior to luxury cars, but the price is more attractive.
Shape enthusiasts find Tiguan’s design increasingly modern and simple, which is an updated trend in luxury cars. The driver is hard to ignore the powerful, economical TSI 2.0 engine with 7-speed dual-clutch gearbox, smooth and fast gearshift. Besides, 4Motion 4-wheel drive system with 4 On-road driving modes and 3 Off-road modes. The chassis of Volkswagen is very compact because German cars were born to run unlimited speeds on Autobahn roads.
Of course, in order to meet the daily use of customers, Tiguan needs more utilities. Tiguan Allspace has electronic braking, 3-zone air conditioning, LED auto-adjust angle, open the trunk or Eco Start/Stop function for fuel saving.
For customers who want more, the Tiguan Allspace Luxury version adds three equipment including:
- The driver screen is a digital 12.3-inch display for a quality resolution of 1,440 x 540 pixels, showing a variety of information such as fuel consumption, speed, distance, driver assistance information, maps, phone contacts, images, song titles integrated with entertainment screens, etc.
- Parking assistance with integrated automatic parking (Park Assist) including options of perpendicular or parallel parking. The vehicle will automatically steer and instruct the driver to perform the shift, throttle, and brake when there is a signal.
- And the 360-degree Area View with a 3D display which can be adjusted arbitrarily to help the driver get to know the surroundings through Bird Eyes view.
Volkswagen wants to provide customers with high quality, safety, and many utility technologies, but the amount of money that customers have to pay is affordable.
